Matariki (Southern Cross) Sterling Silver and Ruby, fabricated, granulated and darkened brooch. The granulated stars were made by gluing copper coated silver spheres to the base plate with wallpaper paste, and then heating the piece to fusing temperature. The carbon in the paste combined with the copper plating to form a flash weld.
